WOTTON'S resident eagle owl has provided inspiration for one of the town's artists.

Julia Fry, who lives on the Synwell side of the town where the owl spends much of its time, has sometimes wondered when listening to the bird's plaintive hooting, how her three cats view this large and rather alarming visitor when he is using their roof as a vantage point.

Julia has painted a moonlit scene with a cat watching an owl through a window from the safety of its home. She wanted to explore the shared characteristics of owls and cats such as their nocturnal activities and favourite types of prey and their slightly mysterious qualities, and hopes that the painting hints at a connection between the two subjects.

The oil painting is called "The Nightwatchman" and has been published as a card by the Clarendon Press. Julia is exhibiting her paintings and cards at her home in Wotton as part of the Wotton Arts Trail on the weekend of 6/7 June and her work is also available in the Fish out of Water Gallery in the town.
