AS ‘Strictly Coming Dancing’ fever sweeps the country this Autumn, Dursley based community organisation World Jungle is supporting the BBC’s national ‘Get Inspired’ campaign encouraging people to get active and get dancing.

Look out for a wide variety of dance and fitness classes each day of the week at venues across the area, together with special workshops lead by guest teachers bringing new dance forms to experience.

Jane Manning from World Jungle explains: “There are so many good reasons to get dancing – It’s a fun, social way of keeping fit, great for both your physical health and mental wellbeing. What’s more, regardless of age, experience or ability, anyone can dance.”

To date the programme has included free dance taster sessions at the Chantry Centre in Dursley including FitSteps and Zumba Gold, together with the introduction of a new regular Afro Cuban dance class in Cam Memorial Hall on Saturday mornings.

Looking ahead organisers are excited to be able to offer a specialist Solo Jive workshop on Saturday, 7 November (10am-noon) in Dursley, teaching the fast paced flicks, kicks and twists of latin and ballroom style jive dancing as seen on Strictly Come Dancing, and requiring no partner work. The workshop will be taken by renowned dance teacher Claire Phipps from the ‘Showgirl Academy’ in Bristol whose previous workshops held in the town have proved incredibly popular. Claire says: “I am delighted to have been invited back to Dursley and hope to see some familiar faces and lots of new people too! This workshop will be great fun, accessible to all ages and abilities and requires no partner. Please do get in touch to reserve a space or if you would like more details.”
