A GROUP of young people from Berkeley and Sharpness have organised a fantastic, Christmas themed event for their whole community to enjoy next week.

With lots of activities for children, stalls, refreshments, a Santa’s grotto and live bands playing too, organisers hope the event at Hamfields Leisure Centre will be a great way to pull the community together in the run up to Christmas and celebrate the achievements of the young people involved.

Running throughout the afternoon from 3pm, the earlier half of the event includes a range of free activities for children and families to enjoy, with face painting, music, cream teas, refreshments and a chance to explore a super Sensory Santa Grotto. From 6pm a number of live bands will take to the stage, including popular local group ‘The Ones’.

Grace Barber, Youth and Community, explains: “The Berkeley and Sharpness Youth Forum wanted to co-produce an event that would publicise their group, recruit new members and show a positive image of young people in Berkeley and Sharpness. The group have all been working really hard to organise the event, which we really hope will be well supported by the whole community. They have come up with lots of good ideas to appeal to all age groups, with something for everyone to enjoy.”

The ‘Berkeley Bash’ is taking place on Sunday 6 December from 3 to 8pm at the Hamfields Leisure Centre in Berkeley. This free event is the idea of the Berkeley Vale Youth Forum, supported by local community organisation World Jungle, Youth and Community services and funding from the Stroud District Youth Fund.
