WITH the long summer holidays fast approaching, help is on hand to keep the children active and happy this summer with a series of free workshops and activities planned at the Arkell Community Centre in Nailsworth.

With a range of activities on offer throughout August including circus fun, African drumming, arts and crafts and cooking, organisers hope there will be something to appeal to everyone.

The programme has been put together by the Arkell Community Centre and creative community organisation World Jungle. Cllr Angela Norman Trustee of the Arkell Community Centre said: “We are really pleased to be able to offer this summer programme to support children and families in Nailsworth this year. Keeping the children busy during the long summer can be challenging and it is very important to be able to access a range of affordable activities on the door step. We hope the programme will encourage children to get active this summer, try something new and most importantly, have lots of fun!”

All the activities are free of charge and for most you can just turn up on the day and join in. Only the cooking workshop requires registering in advance due to a limit on numbers. The sessions will take place at the Arkell Community Centre (Nympsfield Road, Forest Green Nailsworth GL6 0ET) on the following dates:

• Wednesday 10th August, 10am-12noon: African Drumming

• Thursday 11th August, 2.30pm-4.30pm: Get Creative! (art & craft)

• Wednesday 17th August, 10am-12noon: Circus Skills

• Thursday 25th August 2.30pm-4.30pm: Get Cooking! (limited spaces, please register in advance)

The activity sessions are aimed at ages 7 years and upwards and parents are asked to stay with younger children for the ‘drop in’ activities. The Cooking Workshop is for children aged 8-12yrs and requires registering in advance by visiting the World Jungle website (worldjungle.org.uk).
