MARKING the centenary of the First World War, the Forest of Dean’s flagship choir, The Tan House Singers, are proud to present “Lest We Forget” – a concert especially developed to coincide with the launch of the Royal British Legion’s 2014 Poppy Appeal.

As well as featuring Parry’s “Songs of Farewell”, songs by Ivor Gurney and the poetry of Rupert Brooke, Will Harvey, Wilfred Owen and Siegfried Sassoon, the concert conducted by Janet Upton will include popular music of the time and a reflective finale. The tenor soloist is Richard Frewer and our pianist is Patricia Manners.

All profits will go to The Poppy Appeal, which provides vital support for British Service people past and present, and their families. In the past year in Gloucestershire alone the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal has provided financial support to over 775 beneficiaries, plus advice and guidance for countless more.

In this very poignant WW1 Centenary Year, which has so clearly highlighted the incredible horrors and brave sacrifices endured, the Tan House Singers hope that their Commemorative Centenary Concert will not only be a fitting tribute to all those who served (and their families) but also encourage everyone to dig extra-deep this year in their support of The Poppy Appeal.

The concert “Lest We Forget” will be held at St Catharine’s Church, Gloucester on Friday, October 24 (7.30pm). Tickets cost £10 including light refreshments, and are available by calling 01594 516 065.
