WOW! Who would have thought, when taking our seats for Tony Hadley at the Colston Hall last night, that we would be hearing him sing a Killers cover before the night was out?

The lead singer from Spandau Ballet was playing a date on his solo orchestral tour, performing with the South Bank Sinfonia on a tour which was booked long before the Spandau Boys hit the headlines once again.

Shoehorning his performance in to various appearances on TV and radio to promote the new Spandau Ballet album and film ‘Soul Boys of the Western World’, Tony made good on his promise of a night to remember and looked like he had a thoroughly wonderful, relaxed time on stage, laughing and joking with both his fellow musicians and the audience as the evening went on.

The concert began with the beautiful ‘New York Minute’, the 54-year-old frontman proving that he has still got what it takes to keep an audience happy, performing pitch-perfect versions of both his own songs and some really good covers – even though there was barely room left on stage to swing a cat! As he belted out some top tunes, which included David Bowie and the Killers covers, it was obvious that Tony’s talent has only improved with age.

Tony did struggle with the heat, and with the sweat dripping constantly there was a call for him to remove his tuxedo jacket which the suave frontman refused – being the consummate performer from beginning to end.

The second half was pure Spandau, much to the delight of the audience, and it was not long before everyone was on their feet and dancing in the aisles.

Kicking off with To Cut A Long Story Short, Tony took the best bits of Spandau and served them up as only he can: Highly Strung, Musclebound, Through the Barricades and, of course, True were just some highlights of the second ‘Spandau’ set. We were even treated to a version of a song from the new album, ‘Soul Boys’.

There was just one song in the encore – and it was pure Gold.

This was a great night for all fans, who are now looking forward to the recently announced Spandau tour in 2015.
