DURSLEY Male Voice Choir is hosting an open evening for potential choristers at the Chantry Centre Dursley on Wednesday, 4 February, starting at 7.30pm. Men who would like to try out as a chorister, or those who just fancy seeing what it's like to be a member of a male voice choir, are encouraged to come along.

It isn't necessary to be able to read music, although it is a requirement to be able to sing in tune! However, nobody is expected to perform as a soloist and, with the support and encouragement of more experienced choristers, many current singers who thought they couldn't hold a tune have since become valued members of the choir.

Steve Downton said "I've been a member for seven years now and only wish I'd joined much earlier. There is something very special about the sound that a male voice choir makes, and to be a part of that is an honour. As well as pleasing our audiences, we also raise money for charity. What other hobby can offer this sort of enjoyment?"

In addition, the choir has a strong social ethic, and has travelled abroad many times over the years. Another trip to Southern Ireland is planned for later in the year which, if previous trips are anything to go by, will be a huge hit with both the Irish and us!

The open evening takes place on 4 February and all potential new members are assured of a warm welcome. Alternatively phone Steve beforehand, on 07703 131356, if you have any queries, or to arrange to be met on the night.
