AN evening of folk music from local band, Commonground, comes to the Oldridge Bar at Kingshill House, Dursley, on Friday, April 24.

With material extending from the traditional to the contemporary, Commonground are a band with the distinctive sound of harmony vocals accompanied by guitar, concertina and strings. Featuring: Alison Fenner on vocals and duet concertina, David Fenner on vocals, guitar and mandola, Fran Wade on vocals, violin and viola and Kevin Bown on vocals and cello. David and Kevin met on stage about 20 years ago, but forming Commonground is a very recent initiative, hatched by the four of them over a bottle of wine or two in 2012. Recent appearances include Chippenham Folk Festival and the prestigious Mill Race Festival in Cambridge, Ontario, last summer where they delighted audiences with their performance and easygoing approachable manner.

Those who would like to eat can also enjoy a reasonably priced home cooked supper. The bar and kitchen open at 7pm, with the entertainment starting at 8pm. Entry is free, but the hat is passed around.
