NOW in its 14th year, the International Gypsy Guitar festival is all set for another three days of world-class music this July.

This small but perfectly formed family friendly boutique event is a far cry from the vast fields of Glastonbury but the music is some of the worlds finest and is relaxing setting is second to none. The Gypsy Guitar and its music were made famous in the late 1930s by the Belgian Gypsy Virtuoso Django Reinhardt his companion Stephan Grapelli and their band the Hot Club of France. Since then this music has been played by everyone from Jonny Depp (Chocolate) to Sean Penn (Sweet and Lowdown) and has been featured in many movies including Woody Allens Vicky Cristina Barcelona and even The Matrix!

Many of the worlds leading guitar heroes name the illiterate, partially crippled gypsy musician Django as a musical inspiration.

For this festival, founder and musician (Gypsy Fire) Stuart Carter-Smith has always inspired to bring the very best in this genre from across the world to entertain throughout the weekend and this year is no exception. “Its as important to see the “new blood” (this year its Gismo Graf, Amati Schmitt, Remi Harris, Harry Diplock and Kourosh Kanani to name a few) as well as the true legends” says Stuart.

This year it’s the turn of the great Dorrado Schmitt who is playing in the UK for the first time.

The festival takes place at the site on Tumpy Green Lane, Gossington, and music starts at 8pm on Friday, July 25 and finishes Sunday 27. Tickets can be bought on the gate or online.Children under 16 are free of charge and can enjoy free entertainment. Visit www.iggf.co.uk for more details.
