THE parish church of St Mary Kingswood, rather unusually for Gloucestershire, is Georgian. The simple rectangular form of the interior, fashionable at that time, has resulted in a wonderful acoustic for chamber music. It is almost certainly the best small concert hall anywhere in the south of the county. As a result, top class young musicians, most of whom have already performed at celebrated venues throughout the country, delight in coming to perform in Kingswood.

The Gildas Quartet, giving the second concert in the 18th season of Music at St Mary's, fits this pattern perfectly and they will be performing here on October 9. Praised for its 'refreshing approach' and 'exciting precision', it is fast establishing itself as one of the most exciting young ensembles to emerge in recent years.

As Park Lane Group Young Artists and winners of a Tunnell Trust Concert Award, the quartet has enjoyed an exciting year which included Purcell Room and Wigmore Hall debuts and a live performance on BBC Radio 3's In Tune as studio guests with Sean Rafferty. The Gildas Quartet has performed widely across both the UK and Europe including at the West Cork Chamber Music Festival, the Two Moors Festival, Altenberger Kultursommer festival and Pallazzo Ricci, Montepulciano.

The quartet's Kingswood programme includes Haydn Op. 20, No. 4 in D Major; Mendelssohn Op. 13, No. 2 in A minor; and Ravel Quartet in F Major

The concert takes place on Friday, October 9 at 7.30pm and, as usual, all seats are numbered. Tickets for this concert are: Adults £15, Students/Children £6.
