THEIR music has been described as 'A bit of Country, a bit of Blues and quite a lot of Folk', and Chris While and Julie Matthews are probably the finest female vocal duo currently to be touring in the UK and they will be stopping off at St Helen's Church, Alveston this October.

Celebrating 20 years together this year, they have been nominated eight times in the BBC Radio 2 Folk music awards in the 'Best Song’, ‘Best Duo’, and ‘Best Live Act' categories.

Chris While (vocals, guitar, banjo, dulcimer, bodhran and percussion) and Julie Matthews (vocals, piano, guitar, mandolin and bouzouki) are breathtaking singers, songwriters, musicians and performers whose energy and commitment to their craft and their audience is boundless. They have been hailed the best and most hard working acoustic duo on the folk roots scene.

Steve Knightley (of Show of Hands) describes Chris While as having THE voice of her generation and she frequently guests with Fairport Convention when the reprise the Sandy Denny repertoire. Julie is a truly gifted songwriter who was the creative force behind the Albion band. It was when Julie recruited Chris to replace her in the Albion band that they discovered they had such a natural musical empathy and they have been together ever since.

Internationally acclaimed, they continue to be a leading force on the UK's acoustic/roots arts circuit. Their songs cover life as they see it, from the industrial waste lands of the north, to injustice and freedom, matters of the heart and everything in between. Their songs have been covered by many revered singers the world over, but it is While & Matthews' musical partnership and obvious joy of performing together that really brings their songs to life. As performers they are unrivalled and their audiences leave their concerts exhilarated by having been through every emotion possible.

While and Matthews are performing at St Helen’s on Friday, October 16, doors 7.30 for an 8pm start. There will be a licensed bar and all proceeds go to St Helen’s Church, a registered charity. For tickets, priced £14, contact Steve Hitchins on 07973 496525 or by email steve.c.hitchins@gmail.com
