IRON & Oak are a hugely talented duo consisting of Sarana VerLin from America and James Slater from the UK and they will be performing for Under the Edge Arts this November.

Iron and Oak are the pioneers of a new musical genre: Folk Stroke Americana. Bringing you roots music influences from both sides of the ocean their style is a fusion of Contemporary Folk, Alt-Country, Swampy Blues and Red Dirt music. Their musical chemistry is based around their entwining voices and sublime harmonies, bedded on a layer of rhythmic guitar and sweet smoky violin.

Together as singer-songwriters Sarana and James perform their own compositions along with original arrangements of old and new songs…performing songs of love and loss…some grit, some sweetness, some darkness, some light…all with a bit of humour along the way.

With classical training, rock & roll history and American folk roots, Sarana VerLin has honed her skills with thousands of gigs in the UK, Europe, USA and Canada. She’s worked with Grammy award winning producers and is the winner of multiple Detroit Music Awards including Folk/Acoustic Instrumentalist and Folk/Acoustic Recording of the year. You can find her in the Detroit MetroX Music Hall of Fame along with Aretha Franklin, Patti Smith, and Iggy Pop.

James Slater has performed solo, as a duo and as part of a band in clubs and venues across the UK, Europe and USA. He’s always been a singer-songwriter and has played in various bands including folk, blues, and soul. Currently playing as a member of fusion string band Appalachia, James has developed his own unique fingerpicking style that is very recognisable.

Iron and Oak are performing at the Chipping Hall in Wotton-Under-Edge on Saturday, November 14. For their UTEA show, the fabulous, Heather Bristow from North Carolina will be joining James and Heather.

The performance starts at 8pm and entrance costs £8.50/£6.50. You can book online at www.utea.org.uk or by calling Under the Edge Arts on 07791 323869 or via email at info@utea.org.uk.
