CHARLES Berkeley once more welcomes the audience to his ancestral home for a celebration of Christmas in the Great Hall of Berkeley Castle.
The English String Orchestra, regularly aired on Classic FM and Radio 3 through their many CDs, is directed by Michael Bochmann, violin, who has recently been decorated in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list with an MBE for his services to music. They are joined by soloists, Catherine Handley, flute and David Ponsford, harpsichord.
The performance reflects the spirit of Christmas with Corelli’s Christmas Concerto, Vivaldi’s Largo from Winter (The Four Seasons), Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No 5, Debussy’s Syrinx, John Ireland’s The Holy Baby, Minuet from A Downland Suite and Toccato from Concertino Pastorale. There will also be movements from Warlock’s Capriol Suite and short pieces by Anderson and Strauss.
Tickets for the concet, which takes place at 6pm on Sunday, December 6, are available from Orpheus Box Office on 01905 570979 or www.orpheus-events.com and are £39.50.
