AS PART of the Abbey 900 celebrations in Cirencester, a special wine and music evening is planned in the Sundial Theatre to coincide with International Women's Day on Wednesday, March 8.

The evening will feature music by women, for women, about women and the wine supplied will be from women producers supplied by local wine merchants “When in Rome” and Cirencester Majestic.

Beer will be from Cirencester's very own woman brewer, Lucy from Corinium Ales and food will include cheese from local cheesemaker Liz Godsell.

Clive Hook, the event organizer and one of the Abbey 900 Ambassadors said: “As well as some wonderful local performers such as Patsy Gamble – a world class saxophonist, Alison Hustwitt the marvellous singer songwriter from Nailsworth and Operasops the not too serious operatic sopranos from Stroud - there’ll be stalls, displays and tables for suppliers, authors, charities and associations relevant to women.

"The wonderful Ann Blagden will be there too with her troupe to demonstrate Egyptian Belly Dancing and Bollywood too."

Clive continued: "We want to put Cirencester women firmly on the map and our event is now featuring on the global International Women’s Day page.

"We’ve already seen the powerful voice of protest after the US elections – here’s a chance to reinforce that power and show just what’s possible when women work together for global good.”

Every ticket sold will directly support the work of the MS Society.

Clive Hook explained: “Three times more women than men are affected by Multiple Sclerosis so every ticket includes a contribution to the stunning work of the MS Society– a community of people living with MS, scientists, campaigners, volunteers and fundraisers. Together, they help each other and anyone affected by MS live positively with MS today, and face the future with more confidence.”

Tickets will also help to will feed a young girl rescued from sex trafficking and educate a young mother in India about health issues for her and her baby.
