LOCAL blues/rock band Short Elbow celebrate 25 years of working together with a performance at the Old Crown, Uley on Saturday, March 18 at 8pm.

Guitarist Phil Harris who lives in Uley, bass player Ken Lush who is head brewer at Uley Brewery and drummer Nick Baskerville from Ham came together back in 1992 to perform a benefit gig at Hinton Village Hall and have stayed together ever since.

They were a popular act on the Bristol pub-rock circuit and had a novel approach to their performance.

Ken explained: "We were different - theatrical, and we still pack loads of energy into a gig, and what’s more we enjoy what we do, and celebrate it. We’re a happy band - even when we sing the blues.”

The first set at the Old Crown will be made up of songs they played at that very first gig plus the band’s take on Pink Floyd in the middle set nd the chance to dance.

Looking ahead to the future, Ken said: "We always said that if one of us wanted to leave the band we’d call it a day, but we’re still talking to each other. We still love it and I’d like to think that there are a few miles left in the tank yet.”
