THIS Easter local musicians bring St Matthews Passion to Painswick.
The Painswick Singers, The Thames Head Singers and members of The Capriol Chamber Orchestra will be joined at St Mary's Church in Painswick on Friday, April 14 by invited soloists.
They will perform J.S. Bach’s masterpiece telling the dramatic story of the betrayal, torture and sacrifice of Christ through the eyes of St Matthew the Evangelist.
Widely regarded as the greatest piece of Western sacred music, Bach’s Passion features some of his most beautiful arias and mighty choruses and has traditionally been performed on Good Friday since its debut in 1727.
The evening is directed by Andrew Hopwood with Matthew Sandy as the Evangelist and Chris Hall as Christ.
- Tickets are available from Stroud Subscription Rooms subscriptionrooms.org.uk and The Patchwork Mouse Café, Painswick. £10 in advance, £12 on the door. Further information can be found at thsingers.org.uk
