INNOVATIVE rising stars Megson are playing at St Helen’s Church, Alveston on Friday, April 21.

Megson are a husband and wife folk singing duo who bring an infectious mix of heavenly vocals, harmonies and driving rhythmic guitars.

Debs Hanna (vocals, whistle, piano accordion) and Stu Hanna (guitar, mandola, banjo) have gained fame on the British folk scene as Megson not only for their arresting and intelligent song writing, but for their musicianship and Northern humour.

Nominated in 2017 for the best duo in the BBC Radio 2 Folk awards (with three previous nominations), and double winners of the Spiral Earth Awards, Megson draw heavily on their Teesside heritage to create a truly unique brand of folk music.

Their songs have subjects ranging from “Generation Rent”, a gentle rant that recounts the difficulty that their generation faces when buying their first home, to the haunting “Long Shot”, which chronicles the ageing of a band of friends who support a struggling football team.

St Helen’s is a comfortable venue with great acoustics. There will be a licensed bar.

Doors open 7.30pm for performance at 8pm.
