STROUD Choral Society is busy preparing for its summer concert to be held on Saturday, June 10 at St.George’s, Nailsworth, from 7.30pm with Simon Bell as its conductor for the first time.

Simon is no stranger to the choir, having been its accompanist and concert organist since 2013.

The choir is extremely fortunate to have such an exceptionally talented and experienced conductor and organist.

Simon is Director of Choral Music and Organist at Dean Close School and also Director of the Tewkesbury Abbey choristers.

His choirs have performed across Europe and recorded three highly acclaimed CDs. In 2013 Simon conducted the members of Dean Close School’s Chapel Choir at the Festival of Remembrance in the Royal Albert Hall.

Before moving to Gloucestershire Simon held posts at Westminster Abbey, St. Albans Cathedral, Southwell Minster and Winchester Cathedral.

It was whilst he was at Westminster Abbey that he played the organ at the Queen Mother’s funeral in 2002.

Stroud Choral Society’s summer concert will present an exciting programme of beautiful music by composers as diverse as Leonard Bernstein and Edward Elgar.

The choir will be joined by Minpins, the society’s children choir in the performance of Rutter’s Mass of the Children and will be accompanied by the Regency Sinfonia.
