THE Stroud Symphony Orchestra welcomes rising star of the Netherlands, violinist Olivia Doflein, to the town for a third time, for A Night of Rhapsody concert at Holy Trinity Church, Stroud on Saturday, June 24 at 7.30 pm.
Multi-award winner Olivia will be performing Camille Saint Saens’ effervescent third violin concerto, which was composed for renowned Spanish virtuoso Pablo Sarasate.
The orchestra will open the concert with Chabrier’s ever-popular “Espana”.
Three rhapsodic pieces by Butterworth, Delius and Vaughan Willams, which take their inspirations from British folk songs, form the centrepiece of the programme.
Dvorak’s Slavonic Rhapsody is the rousing finale.
This concert also marks the end of an era as John Woodward will take his final bow as Leader of the orchestra before stepping down after many years of service.
A retiring collection will be taken for St Rose’s School, Stroud which cares for children and young people with profound physical disabilities and complex health needs.
