MUSIC at St Mary’s, Kingswood, Wotton-under-Edge, continues in the tradition for its 20th season of attracting some of the very best young musicians in the country with its latest concert from The Gildas Quartet on Tuesday, June 27.

The Gildas Quartet are a young string quartet with a fine pedigree. They are City Music Foundation Artists 2015 and Junior Fellows at the Birmingham Conservatoire.

They have performed to critical acclaim across the UK and Europe at major venues including the Wigmore Hall, Purcell Room and live on Radio 3.

They first came to Music at St Mary’s in 2015, when they were well received by the audience.

Their Kingswood programme is full of delights: Haydn’s “Lark” Quartet, Wolf’s Italian Serenade and the second of Beethoven’s Rasumovsky Quartets.

To complete the evening there is the beautiful 2nd quartet by Erich Korngold. A Wunderkind almost on a Mozartian level, he was driven out of Austria by the Nazis, went to Hollywood and, almost single-handed, invented the modern film score.
