Kaiser Chiefs frontman Ricky Wilson says The Voice will produce a number one act in the next few years.

The BBC One singing show has yet to produce a star to match the success of acts created by The X Factor.

The winner of the first series, Leanne Mitchell, flopped when her debut single did not reach the top 40 and her album missed out on the top 100.

Ricky, one of the four coaches on the show, told Radio 5 Live’s Afternoon Edition: “I assure you that in the next few years you will see people at number one, you will see people on chat shows that were once on The Voice.”

He added: “It will happen, it just might not be that wham bam Christmas number one thank you disappear in six months vibe.”

The show’s latest winner, Jermain Jackman, is to release his debut album later this month – almost a year after triumphing in the show.

US star Will.i.am, another of the coaches on the show, has previously criticised the length of time it takes winning acts to release records.
