Bruce Willis is to make his Broadway debut in Misery.

The Die Hard star will play romantic novelist Paul Sheldon in William Goldman’s stage adaptation of Stephen King’s 1987 psychological horror novel, reported Deadline.

Elizabeth Marvel will portray Paul’s number one fan, who rescues him from a car crash and holds him captive.

Will Frears will direct the play, which is tipped to be featured in the Broadway autumn schedule, although dates and a venue have not been set.

Misery was turned into a film in 1990, starring James Caan and Kathy Bates, who won an Oscar for her performance. It was also adapted as an off-Broadway play, which was revived in 2005 in London.

Bruce, last seen in Sin City: A Dame To Kill For, has a number of big-screen outings coming up including comedy Rock The Kasbah alongside Kate Hudson, sci-fi thriller Vice and action-thriller Wake.
