Moustachioed wannabe MasterChef Tony cut a dash in the kitchen as he prepared a meal for television judges John Torode and Gregg Wallace as the cooking show returned to our screens.

And Tony certainly impressed, earning a pass to the second round after being voted straight through by Gregg for his chicken roulade calling card meal.

But while people were liking the look of his food (even some full-sized carrots), it was his personal style that was ramping up the Twitterati with his suit, bow tie, glasses and ultimately his ‘tache earning him plaudits.

As Tony, a recruitment consultant, sailed through to the next stage, he suggested he might be rushing around the kitchen in his trainers and lycra, but that wasn’t to be.

He served lamb neck fillet with French vegetables as a main course and followed it up with lemon parfait with a shortbread biscuit and a poppy seed tuile.

As well as prepping food for John and Gregg, the judging duo were assisted by previous MasterChef winners Mat Folas, Dhruv Baker and Shelina Permalloo.

Gregg championed his main course, John loved his dessert and Tony was sent through to the quarter final along with fellow contestant Robert, much to Twitter’s delight.

The show is back on tomorrow night when another five amateur cooks will be put through their paces.
