The 29-year-old actor, who has acted in films directed by his famous dad, including Gran Torino and Flags Of Our Fathers, said he had learnt valuable lessons from him.

Speaking on the red carpet at the Los Angeles premiere of the weepy movie, he said he was taught: “Just keep your head down, work hard and stay humble.”

Clint has scored best picture and best director Oscars for his boxing film Million Dollar Baby and western Unforgiven, for which he was also nominated for best actor.

He recently broke box office records for his film American Sniper, which was also nominated for a best picture Oscar.

Scott has regularly posted on social media in support of his father’s work and at the premiere of his own film, said: “We are all very proud as a family. He might turn up tonight, we have to keep an eye out because he’s sneaky.”

Hollywood Boulevard was transformed into a professional bull riders exhibition for the action-packed premiere of The Longest Ride and scores of competitors mounted bulls in a ring outside the famous TCL Chinese Theatre in honour of the event.

Dressed all in black and surveying the wild scene, Scott said: “I’ve never seen them buck bulls on Hollywood Boulevard!

“I’ve been acting for 12 years and I’m just lucky enough that the studio and Nicholas Sparks decided to take a shot on a nobody and I couldn’t be more happy with the way the film turned out.”

But the handsome young actor said he doesn’t know how fans of the romantic novels will react as he follows in the footsteps of fellow Nicholas Sparks leading men Ryan Gosling, Zac Efron and Channing Tatum.

“I’m just going to keep my head down and keep working and try to be a part of great films,” he added.

The Longest Ride will be released in UK cinemas on June 19.
