Piers Morgan has revealed he was once asked to fake his own death for a new reality show.
The tabloid-editor-turned-TV-presenter is quoted by the Daily Mirror talking about plans for a Channel 4 documentary called Piers Morgan Is Dead, which would have aimed to measure media reaction to the news he was no longer alive.
Piers, 50, said: “A few years ago someone wanted me to take part in a reality show where I would be filmed recording my own fake death and they would record the national outpouring of grief.
“They said, ‘obviously some people in your family would have to know it wasn’t real, maybe your mother’, I thought, ‘yeah and my kids maybe’.
“I told them, ‘I don’t think you’ll be seeing Princess Diana-like scenes if I die’. It was an independent company who had approached Channel 4, who were very keen on the idea. It was going to be called Piers Morgan Is Dead.”
The former judge on Britain’s Got Talent and America’s Got Talent – whose US chat show was axed – also revealed he had turned down an offer to compete in this year’s Strictly Come Dancing.
He said: “This year I have been offered a lot of money to do Strictly, I think it was six figures and Dancing With The Stars in America, which was a lot of money, about 300,000 dollars (£192,000).
“But there is not enough money in Fort Knox to get me to dance in public. However, a bottle of Jack Daniels is a different matter.”
