The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo star Noomi Rapace is in talks to appear in an upcoming biopic about Amy Winehouse.
Amy’s life story is set to be turned into a movie that will be written and directed by Irish film-maker Kristen Sheridan, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
The film comes after the success of Asif Kapadia’s documentary about the jazz singer’s life, entitled Amy.
Kristen said: “Amy’s music is felt so deeply by the audience because it was deeply personal.
“Her vulnerability was her strength. She was called many things — a diva, a lost soul preyed upon by tabloids, a tortured genius; our aim is an innovative, emotional and life-affirming approach as we go through the looking glass into her life and art.”
Swedish actress Noomi Rapace perhaps doesn’t look exactly like her subject, but her acting pedigree includes acclaimed turns in Prometheus and The Drop.
The 35-year-old will be starring as opera singer Maria Callas in her biopic, out next year.
Director Kristen is best known for the Oscar-nominated semi-autobiographical drama In America, which was written by herself, sister Naomi and father Jim.
The film will be financed and produced by Lotus Entertainment, who are already trying to sell it internationally at the American Film Market, an event for film financiers.
Amy rose to fame in 2003 with her debut album Frank and follow-up Back To Black. She died of alcohol poisoning in 2011 at the age of 27 after a long struggle with drug addiction.
