The band whose concert was targeted in the Paris terror attacks has entered the Top 100 singles chart thanks to an online campaign by fans.

US band Eagles Of Death Metal were playing at music venue Le Bataclan, the target of one of the seven coordinated terror attacks that took place in the French capital.

A Facebook and Twitter fan campaign aimed to get the band’s cover of Duran Duran’s Save A Prayer to number one “to show our solidarity against terrorism and support for peace”.

The campaign appears to have gained momentum as the track has reached 96 in the midweek chart update, with the possibility to rise before Friday as sales and streaming data are collected.

At least 89 people lost their lives at the concert hall including the band’s merchandise seller, 36-year-old Briton Nick Alexander.

The campaign’s Facebook page stated: “We thought it would be a nice gesture to put their brilliant version of Save A Prayer to the UK No 1 spot as a show of support to the band and all of those affected.

“For the record, no, we aren’t associated with the band or their record company, we’re just fans of them that feel happy to be alive as some of our fellow EODM fans are tragically not now.”

The campaign’s page now has over 7,850 likes.

Save A Prayer has reached 37 on the iTunes chart. It can be downloaded until 11.59pm on November 19.
