With a Golden Globe nomination in hand, and a likely Best Actress Academy Award nominee on the cards for her film Brooklyn, we are probably going to see a lot more of Saoirse Ronan this year.

But unless you are Irish or a whizz at names, chances are, you are probably pronouncing her name wrong.

Which is why the 21-year-old actress, who was raised in County Carlow in Ireland, wore a helpful sign on The Ellen Degeneres Show to settle the debate about the pronunciation of her name once and for all.

It’s pronounced Sur-sha. So if you have watched the clip of Dennis Quaid calling her “Sheesha” when announcing the Golden Globe nominations, you’ll know it’s wrong.

Saoirse, who currently lives in New York, also described the moment when she heard the news of her Golden Globe nomination, saying that she was at Dublin nail bar Tropical Popical when it happened.

The actress managed to repeatedly mention Tropical Popical in her interview and The Ellen Degeneres Show later posted a vine with these edited clips.

The Hollywood star now probably has free nail treatments there for the rest of her life.
