Virtual reality (VR) is a computer technology used to simulate a user’s physical presence. The six-part series will be available through the Jaunt VR app, available on iOS, Android, Gear VR, Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and Desktop 360.

The first two episodes, Coming Up and Dance Tonight, have already been released and see him explaining how the tracks were put together and reminiscing about the stories behind the songs.

The episodes were filmed in the singer-songwriter’s private home studio and also feature rare archive footage.

Director Tony Kaye said: “It is an honour to be part of such a tremendously talented team of artists, tasked with documenting the thinking of this great man, in order to bring his fans a new means of experiencing some of his greatest songs.

“His musical genius is now on display for the world in an entirely new light.”

President of Jaunt Studios Cliff Plumer said: “We used to see artists connect with their fans through album covers and liner notes but that personal expression, and deeper understanding of the music, has diminished over the years.

“With virtual reality, Paul McCartney is taking the most innovative step yet; he’s connecting directly with his fans, to share his innermost thoughts and experiences, in an entirely new, personal and immersive way.”

Further episodes will be released ahead of the album launch on June 10.
