Bon Iver celebrated the release of their newest album with a series of events like no other.

It all started pretty mysteriously, with the band posting 12 images stating the same date and time, September 29 at 6.30pm, but different addresses in different cities.

Fans rushed to the locations hoping for a glimpse of the band or some other cool promotional event, to be met with a cassette player.

Phased out by the CD player in the mid-nineties, the cassette player is a staple of cars more than a decade old and apparently, hipsters.

Remember, it plays one of these?

Fans gathered round to get a first-listen experience of the album, 22 A Million, flipping over the tape to listen to the B side.

We’re not sure if Bon Iver were trolling its fans, or giving them a peculiarly memorable experience. Whichever it is, it’s got people talking!
