Rambert’s Rooster Rocks Theatre Royal Bath

Returning to the stage after 13 years, Rooster makes its debut in Rambert’s 2014 programme at the Theatre Royal, Bath from Thursday 30th October to Saturday 01st November. Christopher Bruce, one of Britain’s leading choreographers, and is a former dancer and Artistic Director of Rambert’s Rooster in December 1994. This piece has quickly been established as a modern classic and a firm favourite of the audience.

The interstellar programme includes the brilliant production of Rooster featuring the iconic and famous music from the Rolling Stones  like Ruby Tuesday, As Tears Go By, Paint It Black, Lady Jane, Not Fade Away and of course Little Red Rooster. Impeccably dressed, snake-hipped men and strong, feisty women perform dazzling and breath-taking courtship dances. The dancing pairs were of particular note as they moved with rhythmic gyration to every beat of the music. Rooster was a perfect climax to the two other dances and received a standing ovation from many in the audience.

Lucinda Childs Four Elements opened the show with eight dancers creating intricate patterns and geometric pathways displaying each element: Water, Earth, Air and Fire. Masked in a variety of patterned bodysuits, two types of playing cards, a domino and the ‘Death” tarot card, they created spiralling movements in a repeating the sequence.

The Strange Charm of Mother Nature was a stunning dance inspired by a visit to the Large Hadron Collider at CERN and sees dancers recreates and demonstrate the energy of the elements which help to create life and the universe. This second piece included music from Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No3 and Stravinsky’s Dumbarton Oaks.
