OH WHAT a Lovely War tours to Bath as Wendi Peters and Ian Reddington perform in Joan Littlewood’s legendary musical following the 100th anniversary of World War One

A riot of music and colour, this deeply moving stage show is packed with familiar songs from the First World War era including It's a Long Way to Tipperary, Goodbye..ee, And When They Ask Us, Pack up Your Troubles and Keep the Home Fires Burning. The songs are performed against a projected backdrop of images and shocking statistics conveying the harsh realities of war. Filled with poignancy, theatricality and humour, it is an unforgettable musical tribute to the men and women who fought to save the nation over 100 years ago.

This satirical masterpiece about World War I originally premiered at Theatre Royal Stratford East in 1963. One of the greatest creative producers of the 20th century, Joan Littlewood, adapted the play from Charles Chilton’s work for radio through her company Theatre Workshop. Oh What A Lovely War was an immediate hit, transferring to the West End in June 1963, opening on Broadway in 1964 and receiving four Tony Award nominations including Best Musical. In 1969, Oh What A Lovely War was made into a classic film, directed by Richard Attenborough and starring, amongst others, Maggie Smith, John Gielgud and John Mills.
