THE FATHER, the most highly acclaimed new play of the last decade, will appear at the Theatre Royal Bath from Monday 22 to Saturday 27 June after garnering a host of five-star national reviews and unanimous praise from audiences in London.

When the Theatre Royal’s Ustinov Studio staged the UK premiere production of The Father in November 2014, it received rapturous reviews and achieved the top spot in the listings for ‘Play of the Year’. Now following a triumphant spring 2015 run at the Tricycle Theatre, Kenneth Cranham is set to revive his extraordinary performance as Andre, with Claire Skinner playing his daughter Anne, in the Theatre Royal’s Main House - one of only two venues where The Father will appear on tour.

Now 80 years old, Andre was once a tap dancer. He lives with his daughter Anne and her husband Antoine. Or was he an engineer whose daughter Anne lives in London with her new lover, Pierre? The thing is, he is still wearing his pyjamas, and he can’t find his watch. He is starting to wonder if he’s losing control.

This 2015 revival of The Father, which now returns to Bath to play the Main House, sees Kenneth Cranham, Rebecca Charles, Colin Tierney and Jade Williams reprise their original roles first seen at the Ustinov Studio in 2014, joined by new cast members Claire Skinner and Jim Sturgeon.
