SHAKESPEARE comes to Wotton Under Edge this month as the Dramatic Society’s Junior Section stage ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’. This much loved play portrays the events surrounding the marriage of the Duke of Athens, Theseus and Hippolyta and includes the adventures of four young Athenian lovers and a group of six amateur actors who are controlled and manipulated by the fairies who inhabit the forest in which most of the play is set. The play is one of Shakespeare's most popular works for the stage and is widely performed across the world.

The Wotton Under Edge Dramatic Society Junior Section has gone from strength to strength over the last few years with many of the members performing alongside the more senior members of the society in a number of productions. Last year thirteen of the juniors took part in the pantomime and the cast for ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ includes actors who are making their debut performances for the society as the group continues to attract new members. Many of the backstage and front of house staff for the performances will be younger members of the society who themselves have taken part in productions over the last few years as Junior members, including a number of the cast from last year’s highly successful pantomime Robin Hood & His Merry Man.

The two performances of A Midsummer Night’s Dream will be staged at ‘Under The Edge Arts’ in Wotton Under Edge on the afternoon and evening of the 18th July. Tickets are now on sale from The Cotswold Book Room, Long Street Wotton Under Edge from the 22nd June, priced £5.
