IF YOU’RE a fan of 60s music, this is theatrical heaven.

Dreamboats and Miniskirts is a fast-paced, energetic and loud performance of musical hits, scattered through a light-hearted plot.

As a sequel to the sell-out Dreamboats and Petticoats, it may be assumed that without seeing the latter, you will be lost or lack an interest in the performance.

This is not the case at all.

Dreamboats and Miniskirts carries its own storyline – focussed heavily on a mix of love stories – and boasts numerous chart-hitting songs, such as Twist and Shout and Pretty Woman.

The audience joins lovebirds Bobby and Laura on their second adventure with charmistic side-kicks along the way.

The show is witty at times, with light humour and lovable lively characters (notably cheeky and endearing Norman, played by Alastair Hill).

The performance showcases amazing vocal talent above anything else – leading lady Laura, played by Elizabeth Carter, consistently wows the audience with effortless but powerful performances.

Live musical performances are also key – the on-stage band and swinging saxophonists who can multi-task dancing while playing a musical instrument are admired in every scene.

Written by Laurence Marks and Maurice Gran, and produced by Bill Kenwright and Laurie Mansfield in association with Universal Music, the show provides a nostalgic experience as classic hits are brought back to life (most ridiculously catchy).

While some may find the compilation slightly exhausted, those who enjoy the best of 60s music will admire the show and are sure to rifle through their old cassettes once home

Dreamboats and Miniskirts is at Bristol Hippodrome until August 1. Evening performances are at 7.30pm, matinees on Wednesday and Saturday at 2.30pm.
