TWO of the UK’s best-loved actors, Tom Conti and Gwen Taylor star together for the first time in a new stage production of Somerset Maugham’s wickedly satirical comedy, Before the Party.

The war is over and the Skinner family are trying to return to normal. With daughter Laura recently returned from Africa, widowed but not alone, the family prepares for the latest social gathering. If only the blasted Government weren’t such a nuisance about the rations and Cook could get some more of those delicious delicacies. Amidst the never-ending whirl of hats and dresses, petty concerns and below stairs skirmishes, Laura reveals a shocking secret that threatens to ruin more than one party on the climb to social success.

Tom Conti also directs this brand new production of Rodney Ackland’s stage adaptation, having first directed it in the West End, starring Jane Asher and the late Michael Gough, at London’s Apollo Theatre in 1980.

Before the Party tours to the Theatre Royal Bath from Monday 12 to Saturday 17 October. Tickets are available from the Theatre Royal Bath Box Office on 01225 448844 or online at www.theatreroyal.org.uk
