WAS learning to dance one of your resolutions for the New Year? Or perhaps you have resolved to try and get more active and make healthy changes to your lifestyle? Or even just to step out of your comfort zone and try something new? Now there are even more opportunities locally to help you keep to your resolutions and make real and positive changes for 2016.

In addition to their regular weekly programme of health and fitness classes, local community organisation World Jungle is organising a series of special ‘one off’ dance workshops to take place over the year at venues across Cam and Dursley. The first will take place on Saturday, January 30, 10am – noon at the Chantry Centre (Lister Hall) in Dursley when you are invited to come and learn the 'Cheeky Charleston' as seen on Strictly Come Dancing.

The dance workshop will be led by guest tutor Claire Phipps from the Showgirl Academy in Bristol who has run a number of popular dance workshops in the town over the past few years.

Claire said: “I am delighted to be invited back to Dursley and I’m really looking forward to deliver this session which is always great fun. We will take a trip back to the 1920's and learn some of the vintage dance moves that were once danced by flappers. The ragtime-jazz music is infectious and you won't be able to stop smiling as you learn the quirky and witty charleston steps, including grannies knee caps, the hitchhiker and the shoe shine.”

Organiser Jane Manning from World Jungle said: “There are so many good reasons to get dancing – It’s a fun, social way of keeping fit, great for both your physical health and mental wellbeing. What’s more, regardless of age, experience or ability, anyone can dance.”

Tickets for the two hour workshop cost £8. No partner is needed and all ages and abilities are welcome. Just wear normal fitness or comfortable clothes, dance shoes or flat pumps - a swishy dress or skirt is optional! There are limited spaces, so booking is advisable by contacting Jane Manning at World Jungle on 07878 865297, email info@worldjungle.org.uk or visit www.worldjungle.org.uk .
