SHAKESPEARE returns to Wotton Under Edge this Spring as the Dramatic Society’s Junior Section stage ‘Romeo and Juliet’.

In this much loved play the long feud between the Montague and Capulet families disrupts the city of Verona and causes tragic results for the two young lovers. Revenge, love, and a secret marriage force the young star-crossed lovers to grow up quickly.

Contrast and conflict are running themes throughout the play making Romeo and Juliet one of the Bard's most popular romantic tragedies. The play was written by Shakespeare early in his career, was among Shakespeare's most popular plays during his lifetime and today is one of his most frequently performed plays.

The Wotton Under Edge Dramatic Society Junior section has gone from strength to strength over the last few years with many of the youngsters performing alongside the more senior members of the society in a number of productions. This time around the situation is reversed with a number of the more senior society members appearing on stage alongside the juniors. The cast for Romeo and Juliet once again includes actors who are making their debut performances for the Society as the group continues to attract new members. The backstage and front of house staff for the performances will also include younger members of the society working alongside some of their more experienced counterparts.

The two performances of Romeo and Juliet will be staged at Wotton Under Edge Town Hall on the evenings of March 18 and 19. Tickets will be on sale from The Cotswold Book Room, Long Street Wotton Under Edge from March 20, priced £7.

The Dramatic Society welcomes new members, young and old, so if you want tread the boards or simply help out behind the scenes or front of house please do contact us.
