THERE’S something for everyone at the Theatre Royal this half term with a wide range of shows for children and their families in the egg, and musical fun for families in the Main House.

The school holidays begin with a children’s classic. It’s hard to believe that Clive King’s story of a caveman discovered living in a chalkpit by a modern day schoolboy is almost 50 years old, but STIG OF THE DUMP remains as charming and entertaining as ever. Having to cope without language, as Stig speaks no English, doesn’t stop the young caveman and Barney getting up to great adventures, retold in London Contemporary Theatre’s production with puppets, actors and songs.

The following week, Krazy Kat Theatre returns to the egg with a whole new take on Mozart’s classic opera, in THE VERY MAGIC FLUTE. With beautiful puppets, magical transformations and fully integrated sign language. Mozart’s comic story of a lost Prince, a kidnapped Princess , the mysterious Queen of the Night and, of course, a magic flute, is brilliantly reimagined for young audiences.

Also in the egg, Patrick Lynch from CBeebies brings to life probably the most famous puppet of them all. THE CURIOUS ADVENTURES OF PINOCCHIO is the true story of the little wooden boy, springing out of the pages of dusty old magic books with a band of crickets, cats and foxes. Patrick Lynch and his company, Lyngo, have been one of the egg’s favourites, regularly playing to sell-out audiences with their highly visual and physical productions especially for pre-school and early years children.

In the Main House during half term, there’s a real family treat as one of the most talked about company’s to visit Bath last year returns by popular demand. Sasha Regan’s all-male company performs HMS PINAFORE, featuring some of Gilbert & Sullivan’s most famously infectious songs, performed in a fresh, fast, inventive and fun style making this a must-see for G&S newbies and veterans alike!
