A COMEDY double bill is coming to Kingshill House in Dursley on Saturday, June 11, with two hilarious performances presented by by Spaniel in the Works Theatre Company.

Man up Jonny Fluffypunk! follows one man’s struggle with the onset of responsibility: fatherhood. Jonny Fluffypunk is a bohemian layabout, an armchair revolutionary and poet. He has also become a father. But who is he to shape a young life? Man Up, Jonny Fluffypunk!

Man Up is a funny and poignant show about big dreams and little victories, about fatherhood and insecurity and about finding the hero within, however unpromising the exterior. It’s part lo-fi spoken word theatre, part stand-up and part publicly-funded cry for help.

The Independent called it: “Acute social observation, intricate humour, surreal fantasy, sharp irony and wit... and England’s most pretentious moustache”.

The second comedy performance is Graveside Manner, a one-man show that is positively overflowing with gloom!

Miserable Malcolm, played by Bill Jones, attempts to entertain with poems about death and despair, excerpts from the world’s most disheartening adventure story and by recounting his time with Melancholics Anonymous, a support group for people addicted to melancholy.

Yet somehow Malcolm can’t keep off the subject of his ex-girlfriend, Mavis. Or her new boyfriend. Or how happy they are.

The Gloucestershire Echo said about Graveside Manner: “Bill Jones spreads his unique brand of miserablism to great comic effect”.

Regular theatre-goers to Kingshill House will be familiar with Jonny Fluffypunk and Bill Jones as both characters performed in the sell-out Trenchcoats for Goalposts earlier this year.

The Comedy Double Bill starts at 8pm. Tickets cost £8.50 in advance or £10 on the door. For more details contact Kingshill House on 01453 549133 or email admin@kingshillhouse.org.uk
