DURSLEY Operatic and Dramatic Society (DODS) are marking the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death with a special production of Twelfth Night in July.

The DODS will stage an abridged 90-minute version of the Shakespeare comedy between July 7-9 July, 7.30pm at the Lister Hall.

Twelfth Night is one of the Bard’s much-loved comedies centred on mistaken identity. It is believed to have been written around 1601–02 as a Twelfth Night's entertainment for the close of the Christmas season.

It tells the story of twins, Sebastian and Viola, who are separated after their ship is wrecked at sea and Viola is stranded on the shores of Ilyria. Trying to find work alone, Viola disguises herself as a boy and becomes a messenger for the Duke, Orsino.

DODS Chairman Frankie Telford said: “This will be the first time the DODS have staged a Shakespeare play in our 63-year history which is very fitting in the 400th anniversary year of the Bard’s death. We have a talented group of members who have come together to stage this abridged version of the classic Twelfth Night.”
