Events galore in city

BRISTOL continues to offer a wide range of activities and events for the summer.

Today (Thursday, August 16), at Bristol Zoo Gardens, families are invited to join Robin Hood, Maid Marion and the merry men in an exciting adventure, 'Robin Hood by Illyria'. Tomorrow evening (Friday, August 17), a tribute to the King of rock 'n' roll takes place at the Thistle Hotel, with a top Elvis impersonator followed by a '50s and '60s disco - to mark the 30th anniversary of Elvis Presley's death.

And this weekend, Bristol Pride fringe week and festival culminates in a special event in Castle Park. The park will come alive on Saturday (August 18), providing music, performance, comedy and dancing for all to enjoy.

On Sunday (August 19), Queens Square will host a summer screening of Dirty Dancing - people are invited to bring a picnic & rug and friends, to watch the free film (sponsored by Shloer).

From Monday, August 20 to Friday, August 24, 'Sinbad's Sea Chests' takes place at Brunel's ship the SS Great Britain - people are welcome to join the artist in residence and Sinbad the ship's cat for family fun.

On Wednesday, August 22, a 'Flutterby Butterfly' family workshop is on offer at Bristol City Museum & Art Gallery - flutter by the museum to enjoy the butterfly inspired activities; and then study the collection of native and exotic species before you fly home.

On Thursday, August 23, 'Wildlife Detectives' take to Avon Gorge and Downs - discover which of our furry friends live on the Downs by following the clues they leave behind, printing your own animal footprint t-shirt in the afternoon.

Next weekend, there will be a one-day international cricket match between England and India at Gloucestershire County Cricket Club - Friday, August 24.

And from Saturday, August 25 to Monday, August 27, a mountain bike festival will be held at Belmont Estate. There will be large screens, live bands, parties, family attractions and rides, a climbing wall, children's play zone and more, including a top- quality dirt jump, freeride expo and fully-loaded cross country race facilities. All food for visitors and participants will be freshly prepared on site.
