Snow White and the Seven Dwarves

Bristol Hippodrome

THERE was more than a hint of London’s East End at the Bristol Hippodrome last night as former Eastenders stars Kara Tointon and Joe Swash took to the stage in this year’s pantomime, Snow White and the Seven Dwarves.

However, Joe’s cockney rhymes fell on deaf ears as the West Country’s own Andy Ford stole the show with a hilarious performance as Muddles that had the audience rocking in the aisles.

A highlight for many was the double act of the Wicked Queen, played by Liz Robertson, and Muddles, as they strutted their stuff to riffs from ‘Girls Allowed’, the ‘Black eye piece’ and ‘Beyon’ See’. A strong script that returned to the roots of pantomime, accompanied by some superbly choreographed and well-known songs which included Disney’s classics ‘Whistle While you Work’ and ‘Heigh Ho’,kept the audience hooked.

Also impressive were the animal costumes won by the dancers as they performed in front of a Rackham-esque set that transported the Hippodrome deep into the heart of the enchanted forest.

Bristol’s production this year is a real winner, and although it’s nice to see the stars, it just goes to prove that it’s not necessarily TV’s big names that make a perfect panto.

Snow White and the Seven Dwarves is on at the Bristol Hippodrome until Sunday, January 10.
