Westonbirt goes wild for three nights of great music

A WEEKEND of rock and soul was enjoyed by thousands as crowds flooded in to Westonbirt Arboretum.

Three nights of picnics, parties and memorable music once again put the Forestry Commission venue on the map.

Despite the downpour, fans rocked to the sounds of Keane on Friday night as the popular three-piece band performed their hits including Everybody’s Changing, Bedshaped and This Is the Last Time.

Lead singer Tom Chaplin repeatedly told the sell-out crowd what an inspiring venue Westonbirt was to play and how the band were stunned at its beauty.

Sunset on Saturday gave way to Simply Red’s passionate performance and Mick Hucknall gave his heart and soul to the show which forms part of the band’s farewell tour.

They played a repertoire of all their hits from their 25-year history and the adoring crowd knew the words to each and every one of them.

From their first ever single, Money’s Too Tight (To Mention), to Fairground and Something Got me Started, their upbeat numbers got everyone moving whilst their final song, If You Don’t Know Me By Now saw groups swaying in unison after a simply brilliant night.

American pop rock then took to the stage as Blondie performed on Sunday evening. Veteran rocker Debbie Harry showed she still has what it takes to get the crowds going with tracks Denis, Call Me and The Tide is High.

With such a varied line-up of artists, there really was a song for everyone making it a weekend Westonbirt should be proud of.

A second weekend of concerts takes place between July 16 and 18 with The X Factor finalists JLS, rock band Status Quo and singer/songwriter James Morrison. For tickets visit www.forestry.gov.uk/westonbirt
