AFTER nearly four years and 60 events, the jazz club at Under the Edge Arts in Wotton will be taking a break from September.
The club has been run by musicians Katie Elliott and Martin Harvey, who contribute to the local community with many musical ventures including founding the youth music collective, the Groove Project.
The final visiting act for the current jazz club will appear on Sunday, June 29 (8pm) and, in keeping with the string of top-class performers that have visited the club, this promises to be one not to miss'.
Ian Shaw is generally considered the finest male jazz vocalist in the country. He's won the 'best vocalist' title at the prestigious BBC Jazz Awards twice; and has been nominated again this year. When Liane Carroll played to a sell-out audience earlier this year, she suggested Ian as someone with a similar appeal. Like Liane, he will be performing alone at the piano, a format that works especially well in the intimate club setting.
Tickets for this event will be limited and early booking is strongly recommended. The monthly Jazz Cafe', hosted by the club's resident trio, will continue through July and August.
