A MAN has died and two have been left seriously injured after a car crash involving three vehicles on the M4 last week.
Police are appealing for witnesses after the collision between junction 18 (A46 to Bath) and junction 19 (M32 to Bristol) westbound, shortly after 11pm on Thursday, May 17, which caused the motorway to be closed for more than eight hours.
The incident involved a black Jaguar, silver Nissan Almera and a Volkswagen Bora.
The driver of the Almera was pronounced dead at the scene and the passenger in the Almera was rushed to Frenchay hospital by air ambulance with serious abdominal injuries.
The passenger in the Jaguar was also taken to Frenchay hospital with what were described by police as life threatening and serious head injuries.
Both the driver and the passenger in the Volkswagen Bora escaped unhurt.
A 36 year old man from Gwent was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving under the influence of alcohol.
Police are asking for anyone who was driving along the M4 and who may have seen the incident to phone the road policing team on 0845 456 7000 or ring Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. They would also like to hear from anybody who saw the vehicles shortly before the incident.
No further updates are currently available on the condition of the two passengers injured in the Almera and the Jaguar.
