Skittles: The Posh ready to make it third time lucky
SLIMBRIDGE-BASED men's skittle team The Posh have made their bid to challenge for the 2008 Blackthorn British Skittles Championship crown.
The Posh, whose home match venue is the Slimbridge British Legion, have entered the competition twice before but only once made it to the Grand Finals when they were dumped out in the first round by Bath City.
This time, they are determined to put things right. Team secretary Lloyd Pennington said: "We've got more or less the same team for this year's Championships.
"We're made up of a collection of players from different teams and are looking forward to winning our matches in the qualifying stages and making it back to Weston for the Grand Final."
They will start this year's campaign in May with regional group matches and, if successful, will proceed through to a series of knockout rounds. The victorious last 16 in each competition, men's, ladies and mixed, will qualify for the Grand Finals which take place at the Sand Bay Holiday Village, Weston-Super-Mare on Saturday September 20.
All qualifying teams will be just four wins away from claiming the crown of Blackthorn British Skittles Champions 2008, scooping a share of the £5,250 prize money, and taking away a booty of goodies, all provided by the sponsors, Blackthorn.
Any teams requiring further information or wishing to enter should contact the organisers, Shoot Out Club on 01803 210210 or visit their website at www.shootoutclub.co.uk/bbsc. Entries close on April 7.
