UNDER the Edge Arts, the community arts centre in Wotton-under-Edge, is presenting an art exhibition next weekend - the first solo exhibition by local artist Heidi Palmer-Smith.

Colour and Delight puts the spotlight on this artist from North Nibley who has worked and lived in the area for many years.

Inspired by her surrounding landscape, Heidi said: "My paintings are a personal interpretation in abstract form of the vibrancy and colour of the landscape and people around me every day; a personal approach to nature and the senses.

"I love experimenting with colour; both blending and clashing to reflect the vibrancy of the world around me."

Having always enjoyed an interest in the arts, Heidi has studied and practised jewellery making, ceramics and textiles for many years. It was a course in fine art that realised Heidi's passion for painting and her ambition to become an exhibiting artist.

She continued: "It has taken me a year to complete the Colour and Delight collection for this exhibition.

"I have drawn inspiration from abstract artist Howard Hodgkin and Cornish landscape artist Kurt Jackson and of course the countryside I live in."

Heidi is a familiar face in the community of North Nibley and Wotton and is married to Lionel - the couple lives in North Nibley with two year old daughter, Clementine, expecting a second child this summer.

Heidi added: "I'm excited to be unveiling this first full exhibition and I look forward to sharing my work with the community through Under the Edge Arts."

The exhibition is open from 10am to 4pm on both Saturday, May 17 and Sunday, May 18 - admission is free, though donations to the arts centre are welcome; and visitors are invited to sign the visitors' book.
