Tasty treats for shoppers at food fair

MOUTH-WATERING treats and scrumptious samples tempted shoppers at Thornbury's first ever May food market.

Stalls brimming with organic fruit and vegetables, fresh fish and deli delights lined Castle Street and The Plain on Saturday.

The event, organised by the town's Chamber of Commerce, sent shoppers into overdrive and traders to heaven.

Chamber member Claire Jaggard said: "It was just phenomenal. We had masses more people than we were expecting and there was a wonderful atmosphere with everybody talking to one another.

"The traders were so happy and all the stalls looked fantastic."

The food fair was a trial set up by the Chamber of Commerce following demand from shoppers and traders in Thornbury.

Added Mrs Jaggard: "We already have a successful farmers' market but it takes place on a Thursday and lots of people are therefore unable to attend.

"This event had two aims; to attract new traders to Thornbury and to get people outside and talking to eachother.

"Everyone I spoke to was very happy and it totally exceeded our expectations."

Traders included Cotswold Edge Farm, Manor Farm Farmshop, fishmonger Geoff Britton and Dean Rise Fruit Farm, which ran out of produce and had to restock by mid-morning.
