A FUNDRAISING group is focusing its efforts on raising money for prostate cancer this year.

Dursley Lions Club have chosen to raise money for prostate cancer charities because they feel it is a male problem that is that is often overlooked.

Dave Hoskins, new president of Dursley Lions club, said: "Prostate cancer is a man's problem and we are a men's club. Many people are concerned about breast cancer but prostate cancer kills around 14,000 men a year. Prostate cancer has been overshadowed by the breast cancer campaign."

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men and despite research into the disease, its cause is still unknown.

Retiring president, Dave Butterfield, handed over the president medal to Mr Hoskins, who has chosen prostate cancer as the chosen target charity for the Lions club, which raises around £50,000 a year for local, national and international charities.

As part of the Dursley Town Festival, the Lions are organising a barn dance in the marquee on Dursley recreation ground on Saturday, July 12, from 8pm. Money raised will go to Lions charities and the festival.
